LISBOA City Tours

 

Visit the main areas:

Alfama - charming ancient Moorish quarter with narrow winding streets and picturesque white washed houses, crowned by St. George’s Castle.

Bairro Alto - a typical night-resort and the centre of "Fado", the traditional folk song of Portugal.

Baixa/Chiado (downtown) - the busiest financial and shopping area. Praça do Comércio, the magnificent «Black Horse» Square with its Triumphal Arch facing the River Tagus, the Cathedral, the City Hall, the Carmo Convent, etc.

Belém - the westernmost part of the city, known by its monuments for example, the Tower of Belém, Jerónimos Monastery, Discovery's Monument, Cultural Centre, and the Royal Coaches Museum.

Plenty of leisure and recreational areas such as marinas, restaurants, and gardens.

 

Nations Park

Located along the river in the eastern part of the city, this new area with its ultra modern residential quarters was built to house the world EXPO 98. Today this is where you find the Oceanário with its fantastic under water world, major meeting & event facilities as well as Restaurants, Gardens and the overall present theme Water.

Tours around LISBOA Coast

Estoril: Cosmopolitan beach resort, with palm lined avenues, the sumptuous villas of millionaires and kings, luxurious hotels, good restaurants, two golf courses and the largest Casino in Europe.

Cascais: The town of fishermen and kings. Beautiful sheltered bay, colourful painted fishing boats, yacht club, golf course at Quinta da Marinha, 17th century citadel, museum and municipal park. Originally just a fishing village with good beaches, it has developed into a cosmopolitan international holiday resort with excellent restaurants, bars, boutiques and night clubs. Daily fish auction ("lota") and a regional open market every Wednesday.

Guincho: A long open sandy beach, famous for fishing and surfing, with several excellent sea food and fish restaurants.

Cabo da Roca: The westernmost point of continental Europe. Spectacular scenery.

Queluz: A charming 18th century pink Rococo palace, described as Portugal’s Versailles. Portuguese Empire antiques and lovely ornamental gardens. The Palace Kitchen, "Cozinha Velha", is now a famous restaurant, complemented by an elegant Pousada.

Sintra: One of the oldest and most beautiful towns in Portugal, perched high in the hills and surrounded by luxuriant vegetation. Sintra, with its fairy tale palaces, baroque follies and unique micro climate has inspired many great writers and poets: Lord Byron called it a «glorious Eden» and Robert Southey longed to spend his last days there.

Visit the 14th century Palácio Real, with its magnificent chimneys, for six centuries the summer residence of the Kings of Portugal. The Moorish castle, the Palace of Pena – a pastiche of architectural styles, the fascinating Gardens of Monserrate with 3 000 different species of plants, and the Seteais (Seven Sighs) Palace, now a luxury hotel.

Breathtaking visit to Arrábida nature reserve and the Setúbal dolphin

Cross the 25th of April bridge and the vineyards of the demarcated area Palmela. The Arrabida nature reserve is located on a mountain ridge from where you’ll have a view over the golden sands and the deep blue sea to the south and over Lisboa to the north. Depart from Setúbal for a sailing turn to meet the Setúbal dolphins, they are just as friendly, fun and smiling as you imagine.

Enjoy a pick nick lunch on board while returning alongside.

ÓBIDOS / NAZARÉ / FÁTIMA

Óbidos: A beautiful walled medieval town, with narrow cobbled streets, picturesque houses, ramparts, and the XVII century church of Santa Maria.

Caldas da Rainha: A spa founded by Queen Leonor in 1485 with a colourful market in the main square.

Alcobaça: A former Cistercian monastery, built to celebrate the 1147 victory of King Afonso over the Moors at Santarém. The church is the largest in Portugal, and in the transept are the tombs of King Pedro and his beloved Inês de Castro, the «Dead Queen», decorated with Portugal’s greatest stone carving telling the story of this romantic couple. Visit the XVIII century kitchens with their monumental tiled fireplaces, and river water channel where the monks used to catch their dinner.

Nazaré: Portuguese for Nazareth, is the fishing village you have seen in pictures, with flat-bottomed boats on the beach and fishermen wearing black stocking-caps.

Batalha: The Monastery of the battle, a gothic masterpiece with beautiful Manueline filigreed stonework. Built to commemorate the Portuguese victory over the Castellians at Aljubarrota in 1385 by King João, it houses his tombs and that of his English Queen, Filipa, daughter of the Duke of Lencaster, and also their children - most notably Henrique “the Navigator”. The vaulted chapter house, nearly 20 square meters with its unsupported ceiling was an engineering wonder in its day (around 1400).

Fátima: A hill town, with a XX century neo-classical basilica facing a square said to be twice as big as St. Peter’s in Rome. This is where, in 1917, three young shepherds saw a series of miraculous visions, climaxed by a solar phenomenon witnessed by thousands. Great pilgrimages are held there on the 13th of every month, between May and October.

 

ALGARVE

Famous resort area in the South of Portugal, 300 kms. from Lisboa, well known for its sandy beaches and golf courses.

NORTH OF PORTUGAL

Birthplace of the nation and home of best wines, including Port. Very picturesque, and with much of historical interest. Visit the cities of Porto, Braga, Viana do Castelo, Vila Real and Lamego, along the Douro Valley.

MADEIRA Island

This mid-Atlantic sub-tropical garden, hardly needs an introduction. A favourite spot for visitors since the XIX century, Madeira’s archipelago is considered as a true nature’s divine grace due to its green and luxuriant flora.

Famous for its rich, fruity wine of the same name, it is also blessed with a volcanic landscape and subtropical climate.

AZORES Island

These nine Island archipelago is considered one of the Portugal’s best kept secrets. Anyone coming to the Açores, should not expect a cosmopolitan atmosphere, but a life that is close to nature, with old traditions and hospitable people.
